The UV-Mini incorporates Ultra-Violet technology for lubricant measurement while the Oil Sensor NG3 wirelessly provides the calibrations for the instrument. This ensures accurate measurement and correlation with the Oil Sensor. Measurements are instantly displayed on any Android tablet or smartphone.
The UV-Mini measurement is based on determination of fluorescence from the oil when exposed to ultraviolet light. Oils and other organic materials will emit visible radiation after being stimulated with a defined wavelength in the UV range. The intensity of this radiation depends on the amount of the excited lubricant. The fluorescence also varies depending on compounds contained in the individual lubricants. Therefore, the UV Mini device needs the cross calibration correction provided by the Oil Sensor NG2. Infrared technology of the Oil sensor is not effected by differences or types of oil, thus the UV mini always measures accurately regardless of the type of oil being measured or the shape of the part.
The demand for more precise lubricant measurement is in part driven by the forming of more complex parts as well as advancements in lightweight or stronger materials. Control of lubricant thickness and distribution from edge to edge and end to end is critical to quality forming parts.
